Sr. FPGA Engineer, Direct to Device, Amazon Leo joins the Amazon Leo team to support the Direct-to-Device initiative, which enables standard smartphones and IoT devices to connect directly to satellites in Low Earth Orbit. You will lead the design and implementation of complex real-time embedded systems and programmable logic for next-generation antenna systems. Daily responsibilities include owning FPGA bitstreams, developing calibration software for on-orbit applications, and designing automation for 2D and 3D structures. You will collaborate with architects to implement digital logic functions and networking functions. Required technical skills include System Verilog, Xilinx/AMD or Altera FPGAs, uArchitecture, RTL coding, and Linux/Unix. You must also possess experience with C++, Python, and modern ASIC/FPGA design and verification tools to characterize subsystems and validate FPGA images in hardware.

What you'll do

Lead the design and implementation of complex real-time embedded systems and programmable logic for next-generation antenna systems.
Own the development, testing, and release of FPGA bitstreams and networking functions.
Design and implement digital logic functions in FPGAs in coordination with RF and Digital Communications engineers.
Develop software for high-volume phased array manufacturing and on-orbit application calibration.
Characterize subsystems and systems related to antennas and design automation for 2D and 3D structures.
Create bring-up tools and testing procedures for phased array systems.
Write test scripts to validate FPGA images in hardware.
Drive trade-off analyses to optimize the customer experience for satellite broadband connectivity.

What we're looking for

Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or granted asylum.
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
5+ years of experience designing or architecting new and existing systems.
5+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
5+ years of experience in FPGA design and implementation using System Verilog.
Experience with modern ASIC/FPGA design and verification tools, including Xilinx/AMD or Altera FPGAs.
Experience with uArchitecture, RTL coding, FPGA optimization for timing and power, simulation, and validation.
