As a Sr. Broadband Phased Array Antenna Architect on the Payload Architecture team, you will drive the architecture of a Ka-band multi-beam phased array system for a low Earth orbit satellite constellation. You will translate high-level throughput and coverage requirements into technical specifications while managing constraints like power, thermal, and reliability. Your daily work involves designing the full signal chain from antenna elements through RF front-ends to digital beamforming backbones and modem interfaces. You will utilize expertise in FPGA and ASIC platforms, high-speed serial interconnects, and SerDes technology to ensure system performance. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will define requirements for signal integrity, capacity mode management, and phased array calibration. Additionally, you will evaluate emerging technologies to shape the roadmap for future satellite generations while providing hands-on support for production and on-orbit debugging of the broadband payload.
Translate high-level throughput and coverage requirements into specific broadband payload requirements considering thermal, power, and mechanical constraints.
Own the phased array architecture across the full signal chain from Ka-band antenna elements to the modem interface.
Define technical requirements for phased arrays and flow them down to subsystem and component specifications.
Develop test plans in coordination with verification teams to validate architectural requirements.
Define signal integrity requirements for high-speed serial links based on SerDes technology selection.
Conduct trade studies for Ka-band RF front-end architectures across multiple semiconductor process technologies.
Design capacity mode management systems to scale beams and reconfigure resources based on demand.
Evaluate emerging technologies to develop the architecture roadmap for future satellite generations.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering/Communications Engineering, or experience with modern ASIC/FPGA design and verification tools.
7+ years of experience in Ka-band RF system design, multi-beam satellite payload architecture, or digital phased array design using high-speed SerDes interconnects.
Experience developing link and system level simulators using MATLAB, Python, or C++.
Experience with RF measurement equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
Experience in wireless system design, architecture, system integration, and RF system analysis.
Experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design.
PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics (preferred).
Experience in Space Vehicle/Satellite Operations, Space Communications, or related industries (preferred).
Experience leading technical collaborations across diverse groups (preferred).
Experience with multi-beam satellite payload capacity mode management or resource allocation (preferred).
Experience with Ka-band or mm-wave RF front-end design across multiple semiconductor process technologies (preferred).
Familiarity with phased array calibration, synchronization, and over-the-air test methodology (preferred).
