TL;DR · GPU Physical Design Engineer

As a GPU Physical Design Engineer at Apple’s Silicon Technologies group, you will collaborate closely with the Front-End (FE) team to understand chip architecture and drive physical design aspects early in the cycle. Your responsibilities include optimizing performance, power, and area (PPA) through best-in-class methodologies, scripting recipes for efficient PD work, and leading place-and-route efforts across various domains. You’ll leverage industry-standard tools like TCL, Perl, or Python scripts to manage cutting-edge GPU designs in advanced technology nodes, ensuring seamless integration of IP from both internal and external vendors. With a focus on large-scale GPU design (>20M gates), you will tackle complex physical design challenges while fostering cross-functional collaboration for world-class product delivery.

What you'll do

  • Drive physical aspects of chip design early in the design cycle with the FE team.
  • Optimize performance, power, and area (PPA) through best-in-class PD construction recipes.
  • Develop methodologies and guidelines for efficient physical design execution and supervision.
  • Lead place and route efforts, setting goals and overseeing progress across domains.
  • Resolve complex physical design issues and drive innovative solutions for GPU designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality physical implementations.

What we're looking for

  • Experience with industry-standard physical implementation tools and PPA optimization flows.
  • Proficient in scripting languages like TCL, Perl, or Python for design automation.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in ASIC implementation and physical design.
  • Expertise in all aspects of ASIC implementation including synthesis, DFT insertion, floorplanning, and place-and-route.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work cross-functionally on complex GPU designs (>20M gates).
  • Proven ability to drive methodologies and best known methods for efficient PD execution.
