TL;DR · GPU Physical Design Engineer

As a GPU Physical Design Engineer in Apple’s Silicon Technologies group, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing high-performance, power-efficient GPUs. Your responsibilities include collaborating closely with the Front-End team to drive physical aspects of chip design early on, optimizing performance, power consumption, and area (PPA) through innovative methodologies, and leading place-and-route engineers to ensure seamless integration across various domains. You’ll work with cutting-edge EDA tools and scripting languages like TCL, Python, and Perl to implement complete chip designs from RTL to tapeout, pushing the boundaries of GPU technology in advanced nodes. This role demands expertise in physical design, synthesis, DFT, clocking, and a deep understanding of VLSI concepts, making it ideal for those passionate about crafting leading-edge silicon solutions.

What you'll do

  • Drive the construction and optimization of physical design for high-performance GPU chips.
  • Collaborate with front-end teams to integrate chip architecture early in the design cycle.
  • Develop methodologies and best practices to enhance efficiency in physical design processes.
  • Oversee place-and-route engineers, setting goals and resolving complex design issues.
  • Implement innovative solutions to improve performance, power consumption, and area (PPA) metrics.
  • Lead the resolution of intricate physical design challenges and streamline execution across domains.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science required.
  • Experience in physical design, synthesis, DFT, clocking, and digital logic design.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like TCL, Python, Perl, or shell scripting.
  • Strong understanding of ASIC implementation processes including synthesis, floorplanning, and place-and-route.
  • Familiarity with EDA tools and their APIs for GPU physical design optimization.
