As a CPU Server Physical Design Engineer within the CPU Engineering group, you will lead innovative Central Processing Unit design efforts to develop and verify high-performance, low-power multi-core CPU operations. You will be responsible for identifying and solving problems regarding design completeness, functionality, power, and performance while collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements and trade-offs from conceptualization through post-silicon validation. The role involves creating functional models, checkers, test plans, and detailed technical documentation for architectural descriptions and implementation details. To succeed, you will utilize expertise in computer architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, and circuits. Required skills include proficiency in high-level programming languages like C and C++, scripting languages such as Python or Perl, and industry standard tools for synthesis, place, route, and design verification using Verilog or VHDL.
Develop and verify high-performance, low-power CPU designs using knowledge of computer architecture and logic design.
Identify and solve technical problems to ensure design completeness, functionality, power, and performance.
Define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs regarding performance, power, cost, and functionality for product goals.
Manage the design process from conceptualization through pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation.
Write detailed technical documentation including feature descriptions, architectural details, and verification test plans.
Create functional models, checkers, and test plans to support CPU development.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 1+ year of relevant engineering experience.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with high-performance microprocessor design (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with high-level programming (C, C++), scripting languages (Perl, Python), and tools for synthesis, place/route, and verification (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with simulators, waveform debugging tools, simulation, emulation, formal verification, or silicon validation (preferred).
2+ years of experience in creating functional models, checkers, test plans, and test generation; and 1+ year in a large matrixed organization (preferred).
