As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Image Quality Tuning engineer to join our team. In the day to day, you will optimize the ISP pipeline for both road and cabin views through a data-driven approach, ensuring image stability and clarity in high-motion and high-vibration environments. You don't just find the bugs; you write the scripts to identify them and then modify the ISP parameters to fix them. We have a tremendous amount of telemetry and access to customers that help guide our design process. You will work directly with our customers to ensure we lead the industry in our product design. We run a collaborative process working closely with Product Management, EE, PD, FW, EPM, NPI, and Hardware leadership to make excellent tradeoffs and choices. Throughout this process, you’ll share your expertise with other engineers. The US and Taiwan IQ teams are supported by the Supply Chain team, laboratories, JDM design resources, and a growing supply base. You will work closely with these internal and external partners to achieve our objectives.
This role is based in our Taipei office, and it is a hybrid position required to office as needed. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time and proximity to an international airport. Relocation will not be provided
In this role, you will:
- ISP Tuning & Optimization: Assist the Lead Architect in tuning key ISP blocks (Auto Exposure, Noise Reduction, Sharpening, and Color Mapping) for both RGB and RGBIR sensors. Optimize Auto-Exposure (AE) weighting and shutter-speed priorities to minimize motion blur and "jello effect" during vehicle vibration.
- Stabilization & EIS Tuning: Actively tune Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and gyro-sensor integration to maintain video fluidity and frame-to-frame consistency under various road surface conditions.
- Automation Development: Develop Python/MATLAB scripts to extract objective metrics (MTF, SNR, Dynamic Range) from massive field-drive datasets.
- Tuning Toolchain Management: Build and maintain internal tools to visualize ISP parameter changes, ensuring that tuning "drops" are documented and version-controlled. Include visualization for stabilization performance and motion-vector consistency to ensure tuning "drops" are documented.
- Regression Analysis (Dynamic & Static): Own the "Version-to-Version" IQ database. Ensure that fixing a DMS issue doesn't accidentally degrade stabilization or license plate clarity during high-speed driving.
- Report Generation: Automate IQ report generation. Include "Vibration Robustness" scores in the summaries to provide the Lead Architect with a complete picture of performance in real-world driving.
- Manage: We bolster our internal development team with top JDM companies to design, validate, certify and manufacture quality products, certification labs and other external consultants.
- Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role:
-
- 6+ years in Image Quality or ISP Tuning; comfortable with at least one major SoC tuning tool (e.g., Ambarella, Novatek, Sony, or Qualcomm).
- Motion & Stability Expertise: Hands-on experience tuning AE for motion-blur mitigation or EIS for video stabilization.
- Strong Programming: Proficiency in Python (OpenCV, NumPy) for image processing; specifically for temporal analysis and frame-to-frame metric extraction.
- CRA & Hardware Awareness: Understanding of how lens/sensor interactions and mechanical tolerances (lens-tilt/vibration) affect the tuning limits.
- Must have shipped automotive or high-end imaging products from "bring-up" to mass production.
- Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
- Ability to travel up to 25% when necessary.
- Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive independent work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

- Be an architect: Evaluate system feature tradeoffs and create the system specifications for development with product management and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Spearhead the development process from prototyping through field validation according to performance, cost and schedule goals.
- Manage: We bolster our internal development team with top JDM companies to design, validate, certify and manufacture quality products, certification labs and other external consultants.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

- You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
- You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
- You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-caliber team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will:
- Serve as the final escalation point for intricate hardware and firmware issues, managing complex investigations from initial triage to definitive root cause resolution.
- Conduct comprehensive, end-to-end debugging across the entire stack, including hardware components, firmware, gateways, and AI/ML pipelines.
-
Analyze device telemetry and fleet-level patterns using internal tools, translating raw data and logs into clear, actionable technical narratives.
-
Drive continuous product improvement by leading post-mortem analyses to identify root causes, systemic issues, key learnings, and actionable trends.
- Collaborate closely with the R&D team, using support trend analysis to develop superior customer solutions.
-
Lead technical feedback for new hardware to ensure supportability and meet installation requirements well before general availability.
-
Define success criteria, validation plans, and operational runbooks for new hardware launches, ensuring global support team readiness.
- Lead on-site technical investigations and manage beta deployments for next-generation hardware, often in demanding environments.
-
Develop or contribute to internal diagnostic tools to significantly accelerate ticket resolution and trend analysis.
-
Elevate the organization's technical expertise by providing technical coaching and conducting case reviews for support engineers.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field.
- 6+ years of experience in technical support, field engineering, or systems engineering, specifically with distributed, hardware-integrated products.
- Proficiency using diagnostic tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, power supply, CAN/LIN analyzers).
