TL;DR · Supplier Development Engineer, Power Electronics

Supplier Development Engineer, Power Electronics (Starlink) is a technical role focused on building a resilient, scalable supply chain for power electronics within the Starlink User Terminal portfolio. The engineer manages end-to-end supplier development, including strategic selection, new product introduction, and high-volume production scaling for components like power conversion modules and power supply units. Day-to-day responsibilities involve engaging with suppliers on process engineering, executing qualification plans such as HALT and HASS, and performing root cause analysis using 8D and 5-Why methodologies to address failures in MOSFETs, GaN devices, and capacitors. The role requires expertise in power conversion topologies, thermal management, and magnetics. Key technical skills include proficiency with PPAP, APQP, DFMEA, and standards like IPC-9592 and AEC-Q101. This position solves critical manufacturing challenges to ensure high-volume production reliability for complex power electronics systems.

What you'll do

  • Manage end-to-end supplier development for power electronics including selection, NPI, qualification, and production scaling.
  • Engage early with suppliers on equipment selection and process engineering to ensure high-volume manufacturing readiness.
  • Assess supplier capabilities for advanced components like SiC, GaN, magnetics, and thermal management systems.
  • Lead NPI activities, PPAP, first article inspections, and reliability campaigns to enable full-rate production.
  • Develop and standardize qualification protocols including power cycling, thermal validation, and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements using Lean methodologies, scorecards, and systematic process audits.
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for specific power electronics failure modes like MOSFET failures or solder fatigue.
  • Provide reactive quality engineering support to resolve field returns and production issues using 8D and 5-Why methods.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience in power electronics, quality engineering, reliability engineering, or supplier development.
  • Expertise in power conversion topologies, semiconductors (Si, SiC, GaN), magnetics, and thermal management systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes including PPAP, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and First Article Inspection for power components.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC-9592, IEC 62368-1, AEC Q101, AS9100, and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why) and statistical tools like Minitab or Six Sigma.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
