TL;DR · Supplier Development Engineer, PCB

The Supplier Development Engineer, PCB (Starlink) joins the Starlink User Terminal business to manage a resilient and scalable supply chain for printed circuit boards. This role focuses on supplier selection, development, qualification, and scaling for high-volume production of bare, multilayer, and high-frequency/RF PCBs. The engineer will execute strategies for material control, lead Production Part Approval Processes, conduct first article inspections, and perform root cause analysis on defects like delamination or impedance drift. Key responsibilities include developing qualification plans, performing reliability campaigns, and utilizing Lean methodologies to improve supplier performance. Required expertise includes PCB manufacturing processes such as lamination, drilling, plating, and etching, alongside knowledge of IPC standards, 8D problem-solving, and statistical methods like Six Sigma. The role addresses the technical challenge of ensuring high-volume production readiness for complex electronic components in a rapidly growing product line.

What you'll do

  • Manage the PCB supply chain quality and reliability for the Starlink User Terminal portfolio.
  • Assess supplier manufacturing capabilities including production capacity, process stability, and material control.
  • Lead Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), First Article Inspections (FAI), and production rate ramps.
  • Develop and execute qualification plans for dimensional, electrical, RF performance, and reliability testing.
  • Standardize qualification protocols such as equipment buy-off checklists and Factory Acceptance Tests across the supply base.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements using Lean methodologies, scorecards, and systematic problem-solving.
  • Perform root cause analysis and lead corrective actions for common PCB defect modes and failure mechanisms.
  • Qualify new suppliers and manage ongoing performance of the incoming PCB manufacturing base.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, RF Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in PCB engineering, quality engineering, reliability engineering, or supplier development.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
  • Experience with PPAP, APQP, PFMEA, DFMEA, and First Article Inspection specifically for PCBs and electronic interconnects (preferred).
  • Deep familiarity with relevant IPC standards and related quality and reliability standards (preferred).
  • Strong technical background in manufacturing processes, materials, quality systems, and high-volume electronics production (preferred).
  • Practical experience qualifying rigid, flex, rigid-flex, and high-frequency/RF PCBs for high-volume production (preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings, Gerber/ODB++ files, stack-up designs, and material specifications (preferred).
