TL;DR · Supplier Development Engineer, Routers

The Supplier Development Engineer, Routers (Starlink) joins the Starlink User Terminal team to manage end-to-end supplier development for WiFi routers and wireless modules. This role involves early engagement in supplier selection, equipment selection, and process engineering to prepare high-volume manufacturing programs. The engineer will oversee new product introduction, production part approval processes, first article inspections, and reliability campaigns while ensuring material and process corners are fully characterized. Key responsibilities include conducting radio frequency conducted and radiated testing, over-the-air throughput validation, beamforming calibration, and EMI/EMC compliance. Candidates must possess expertise in IEEE 802.11 standards, RF hardware, antenna systems, and high-volume manufacturing processes like SMT assembly. The role addresses the challenge of scaling a resilient supply chain for wireless components while resolving technical issues such as RF desense, antenna detuning, and thermal-induced instability through root cause analysis and Lean methodologies.

What you'll do

  • Manage end-to-end supplier development for WiFi routers and wireless modules from selection through high-volume production.
  • Engage suppliers early on equipment selection and process engineering to ensure manufacturing readiness.
  • Lead new product introduction activities including PPAP, first article inspections, and reliability campaigns.
  • Develop and execute qualification plans for RF testing, antenna tuning, and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Standardize qualification protocols and equipment buy-off checklists across the entire supplier base.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements using Lean methodologies, process audits, and scorecards.
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for hardware failures like RF desense and thermal instability.
  • Provide reactive quality engineering support to resolve field returns and production issues quickly.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience in WiFi or RF engineering, quality engineering, reliability engineering, or supplier development.
  • Preferred 3+ years of experience in WiFi/RF engineering, quality engineering, reliability engineering, or supplier development.
  • Technical expertise in IEEE 802.11 standards, RF hardware, antenna systems, and high-volume manufacturing processes like SMT assembly.
  • Experience with NPI, PPAP, FAI, and reliability campaigns for WiFi routers and wireless modules.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why), Lean methodologies, Six Sigma, and statistical tools like Minitab.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings, RF schematics, antenna gain patterns, and WiFi performance specifications.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
