The Sr. Principal Data Center Design Electrical Engineer provides technical leadership and direction for assigned data center projects, ensuring designs meet company expectations. This role involves managing electrical engineering design, overseeing contract administration including cost forecasts and change orders, and developing training programs to mentor team members. The engineer will work with colocation providers to ensure systems are properly designed and installed while solving complex cross-functional issues independently. Key responsibilities include creating policies, reviewing technical drawings, and evaluating equipment submittals for mission-critical infrastructure. Required expertise includes power generation, storage, delivery, grounding, lightning protection, and fire alarms. The role requires proficiency in high-density compute environments and liquid cooling technologies. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and extensive experience in construction, commissioning, and technical writing to support large-scale data center infrastructure projects.
Lead electrical engineering design and technical direction for assigned data center projects.
Provide expert guidance on electrical systems including power generation, storage, delivery, and grounding.
Manage contract administration tasks such as generating contracts, change orders, and cost forecasts.
Develop and maintain best-in-class policies, procedures, and technical standards for infrastructure.
Resolve complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and high levels of initiative.
Mentor team members and serve as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and commissioning documentation.
Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines to ensure robust operation of data center systems.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
10+ years of experience in electrical engineering design, construction, commissioning, or owner-side technical leadership for mission critical facilities.
Strong working knowledge of data center electrical systems including power generation, storage, delivery, grounding, and fire alarms.
Experience developing technical standards, basis of design documents, owner's requirements, specifications, whitepapers, or design guidance.
Demonstrated ability to review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, commissioning documentation, and equipment submittals.
Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholder groups including mechanical, structural, construction, and operations.
Strong technical writing, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience with high-density compute environments and liquid cooling technologies (preferred); Professional Engineering license (preferred).
