The Principal Data Center Design Electrical Engineer leads and manages electrical engineering design and technical direction for assigned data center projects. This role involves providing leadership to ensure initiatives meet company expectations while managing the direct interface with colocation providers' engineering teams to ensure systems are adequately designed, specified, and installed. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing advanced diagnostics, resolving non-routine issues, developing training programs, and overseeing contract administration including cost forecasts and change orders. The role requires expertise in power generation, storage, delivery, grounding, lightning protection, and fire alarms within mission-critical facilities. Candidates must be proficient in reviewing electrical drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation while coordinating across disciplines like mechanical, structural, and construction. Technical skills include experience with high-density compute environments and liquid cooling technologies to solve complex infrastructure problems for data center operations.
Lead and manage electrical engineering design and technical direction for assigned data center projects.
Provide expert guidance on electrical systems including power generation, storage, delivery, and grounding.
Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and commissioning documentation.
Manage contract administration tasks including the creation of contracts, change orders, and cost forecasts.
Develop and maintain best-in-class policies, procedures, and technical standards for infrastructure projects.
Solve complex, cross-functional issues by providing risk-based recommendations and system-level enhancements.
Act as a subject matter expert to train team members and lead engineering seminars or conferences.
Coordinate with external partners and internal teams to ensure electrical systems are properly designed and installed.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
5+ years of experience in electrical engineering design, construction, commissioning, or owner-side technical leadership for mission critical facilities.
Strong working knowledge of data center electrical systems including power generation, storage, delivery, grounding, and fire alarms.
Experience developing technical standards, basis of design documents, owner's requirements, specifications, whitepapers, or design guidance.
Demonstrated ability to review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, commissioning documentation, and equipment submittals.
Strong technical writing, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholder groups to resolve complex issues.
Experience with high-density compute environments and liquid cooling technologies (preferred).
