The CPU Systems RTL Engineer joins the CPU Engineering team to develop RTL for high-performance, low-power devices. Working closely with chip architects, the engineer participates in the product life cycle by conducting micro-architecture research, performing performance exploration, and developing detailed specifications. Day-to-day responsibilities include owning RTL design refinement to meet power, area, and timing goals, providing functional and performance verification support, and collaborating with software, firmware, and platform teams to enable CPU features. The role requires expertise in microprocessor architecture, including timers, interrupt controllers, power management, and debug/trace systems. Candidates must possess proficiency in Verilog or VHDL, experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools, and knowledge of logic design principles. Preferred skills include understanding low-power microarchitecture techniques and proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl or Python to solve complex hardware challenges.
Conduct performance exploration by identifying high-performance strategies with the CPU modeling team.
Develop microarchitecture specifications through research and early-stage architectural exploration.
Develop, assess, and refine RTL designs to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
Support the design verification team in executing functional verification strategies.
Verify that the RTL design meets specific performance targets.
Implement and validate physical design aspects including timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.

What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
MS degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of CPU RTL or similar experience.
Thorough knowledge of microprocessor architecture including timers, interrupt controllers, power management, and debug/trace architectures.
Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL along with experience using simulators and waveform debugging tools.
Knowledge of logic design principles including timing and power implications.
Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
