Catalyst Velocity Data Center Technician joins the Infrastructure Operations team to support mission-critical cloud infrastructure. This role involves performing technical work with limited supervision, including rack-and-stack activities for servers and network equipment, hardware installation, break/fix repairs, and decommissioning. The technician manages copper and fiber cabling infrastructure, performs initial root-cause analysis, and handles inventory and asset logistics. Day-to-day tasks include troubleshooting hardware issues, documenting resolutions in ServiceNow or JIRA, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols like 5S. Key technical requirements include knowledge of server hardware, storage systems, networking technologies, TCP/IP fundamentals, Linux command-line operations, and fiber optics. The role addresses the challenge of maintaining a massive, reliable cloud infrastructure by ensuring high availability through proactive maintenance, precise cabling, and efficient lifecycle management of critical data center components.
Perform rack-and-stack activities for servers, network equipment, and related infrastructure.
Install, upgrade, troubleshoot, and decommission server and networking hardware components.
Install, label, test, and maintain copper and fiber cabling infrastructure.
Manage inventory by receiving, auditing, tracking, staging, and shipping equipment.
Resolve technical issues independently and document findings in systems like ServiceNow or JIRA.
Perform root-cause analysis and escalate complex technical problems with supporting information.
Follow safety protocols and standard operating procedures to maintain a secure work environment.
Identify recurring operational issues and suggest improvements for process efficiency.
What we're looking for
Must have an Associate Degree in IT, Computer Science, Electronics, Networking, Data Center Operations, or a related technical field.
Alternatively, must have four years of military service with relevant technical, operational, communications, logistics, aviation, electronics, maintenance, or infrastructure experience.
Alternatively, must have two years of experience in data center operations, technical support, IT infrastructure, networking, telecommunications, electronics, or related fields.
Must possess strong technical aptitude and the ability to work independently while following established procedures.
Must demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills with a professional demeanor.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
Ability to work non-standard schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and shift assignments.
Must have reliable transportation to the assigned data center location.
