The Senior Systems Engineer will join a high-performing customer team focused on delivering mission-critical communication systems to State and Local government agencies, working remotely with travel requirements of 25-50% across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This role involves designing and implementing Motorola’s ASTRO 25 radio networks, including infrastructure, mobile backhaul, and WAN/CEN networks, while engaging closely with customers for design reviews and acceptance testing. The engineer will leverage APCO Project 25 standards and work with technologies such as VMware ESXI, Linux, Juniper routers, and Fortinet firewalls, requiring expertise in RF engineering, network protocols, and system integration. Essential skills include strong customer interaction, project leadership, and a background in radio frequency and land mobile radio systems.
Design and implement radio networks including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, and WAN/CEN networks.
Conduct customer design reviews, acceptance testing events, coverage tests, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts.
Build out, configure, and test systems in both lab and field environments for project completion.
Perform radio coverage testing, frequency analysis, and interference mitigation to ensure optimal network performance.
Prepare comprehensive system documentation including fleet maps, encryption templates, and radio programming guides.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical discipline and 3+ years of experience, or 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
Extensive knowledge of Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture and P25 Land Mobile Radio systems.
Proficiency in radio frequency (RF) design, including antenna selection and lightning protection systems.
Experience with network protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, and NAT.
Strong skills in system buildout, configuration, and acceptance testing for complex public safety communications projects.
Familiarity with construction of remote communication sites, including site selection and tower requirements.
Certifications through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, or CCNA preferred.
