Staff Cyber Systems Engineer (S) joins the Mission Defense Cyber Team to support the Sentinel program. This role focuses on ensuring cyber survivability for launch and missile defense systems by translating stakeholder requirements into technical architecture and design. You will decompose, refine, and implement cybersecurity protections while evaluating attack surfaces and risk management strategies. Day-to-day responsibilities include guiding security tool selection, performing cyber-attack surface analysis, and overseeing verification efforts to ensure capabilities are functional and complete. The role requires expertise in NIST 800-160, RMF documentation, and the system development life cycle. You will work within an Agile, DevSecOps environment using tools like DOORS, CAMEO, SonarQube, and Fortify. Key technical requirements include a background in systems or computer engineering and current DoD 8570 certification for IASAE Level II (CISSP).
Decompose and refine system cybersecurity requirements at all levels to ensure built-in protections are integrated into architecture and design.
Guide and support security layout, architecture, and the selection and development of security tools.
Evaluate implemented designs to identify security risks, analyze attack surfaces, and verify that protections are functional and complete.
Ensure weapon system compliance with contractually obligated cybersecurity standards including CNSSI 1253, DoD 8570, and DoD 8510.
Propose and design cyber systems architecture changes with full traceability to specific requirements.
Provide technical guidance and oversight across teams to ensure high-quality product deliveries and successful flight test events.
Perform cyber-attack surface analysis of system designs and provide recommendations to mitigate risks.
Participate in cybersecurity assessment activities, including the planning and execution of security penetration tests.
What we're looking for
Must possess an active Secret clearance.
U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
Bachelor's degree with 12 years, Master's with 10 years, or PhD with 8 years of experience in related technical fields (or 18 years experience without a degree).
Experience utilizing NIST 800-160 system security engineering and the system development life cycle.
Experience developing RMF assessment and authorization documentation.
Current DoD 8570 certification for IASAE Level II (CISSP) with ability to obtain Level III within 6 months.
System security architecture experience (preferred).
Experience with DOORS, CAMEO, DevSecOps tools, or specific security plans and certifications like ISSEP/ISSAP (preferred).
