The Sr Principal Cyber Systems Engineer joins the Mission Defense Cyber Team to support the Sentinel program. This role involves implementing weapon system requirements to ensure cyber survivability by decomposing, deriving, and refining cybersecurity requirements across all architecture levels. The engineer will guide security layout designs, influence tool selection, and evaluate realized implementations to identify risks and attack surfaces. Key responsibilities include developing verification efforts, defining security governance, and ensuring compliance with standards like CNSSI 1253 and DoD 8570. The position requires expertise in NIST 800-160, RMF assessment artifacts, and DevSecOps environments. Candidates should possess skills in Model-Based System Engineering using Cameo, requirement management via IBM DOORs, and experience with containerized software systems to support Launch and Missile Defense systems.
Decompose and refine system cybersecurity requirements at all levels to drive built-in protections into the architecture and design.
Guide the security layout and architecture while influencing the selection and development of security tools.
Evaluate proposed implementations to identify security risks, analyze the attack surface, and verify that protections are integrated.
Support the development of verification efforts to ensure cybersecurity capabilities are functional, effective, and complete.
Ensure weapon system compliance with contractually obligated standards including CNSSI 1253, DoD 8570, DoD 8510, and AFI 17-101 Pro.
Propose and design cyber systems architecture changes with full traceability to requirements.
Perform cyber-attack surface analysis of system designs and provide recommendations to mitigate and reduce risk.
Participate in cybersecurity assessment activities, including reviewing plans, procedures, reports, and security penetration test execution.
What we're looking for
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years, Master’s with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
Must have 14 years of experience in cyber systems engineering related fields in lieu of a degree.
Must possess an active Secret clearance and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance and Special Access.
Must be able to obtain an IASAE II certification (CISSP preferred) within six months of hire.
Must have direct experience utilizing NIST 800-160 system security engineer and/or the system development life cycle.
Must have direct experience in systems engineering activities including requirements decomposition, architecture, design, implementation, integration, test, and verification.
Must have direct experience supporting the development of RMF assessment authorization artifacts to satisfy NIST SP 800-37 requirements.
