The Sr Principal Cyber Systems Engineer joins the Mission Defense Cyber Team to support the Sentinel program. This role involves implementing weapon system requirements to ensure cyber survivability by decomposing, deriving, and refining cybersecurity requirements across all system levels. The engineer will guide security architecture, influence tool selection, perform attack surface analysis, and oversee verification efforts to ensure functional protections. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with standards like CNSSI 1253, DoD 8570, and AFI 17-101 while solving complex problems in Agile and DevSecOps environments. Required skills include systems engineering principles, NIST 800-160, and RMF assessment authorization. Preferred expertise includes Model-Based System Engineering using Cameo, IBM DOORs, and containerized software systems. The work focuses on developing and sustaining optimized Launch and Missile Defense systems.
Decompose and refine system cybersecurity requirements to drive built-in protections into the architecture and design.
Guide the security layout and architecture while influencing the selection and development of security tools.
Perform cyber-attack surface analysis on system designs to identify risks and provide mitigation recommendations.
Ensure weapon system compliance with contractually obligated standards such as CNSSI 1253 and DoD 8570.
Propose and design cyber systems architecture changes with full traceability to requirements.
Develop and document technical engineering processes and procedures for cyber implementation.
Participate in engineering reviews of technical requirements, design plans, and digital communications systems.
Support the development of RMF assessment authorization artifacts to satisfy NIST SP 800-37 requirements.
What we're looking for
Must have a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years, Master’s with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
Must have 14 years of experience in cyber systems engineering related fields in lieu of a degree.
Must possess an active Secret clearance.
Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance and Special Access.
Must be able to obtain an IASAE II certification (CISSP preferred) within six months of hire.
Must have direct experience utilizing NIST 800-160 system security engineering and/or the system development life cycle.
Must have direct experience in systems engineering activities including requirements decomposition, architecture, design, implementation, integration, test, and verification.
Must have direct experience supporting the development of RMF assessment authorization artifacts to satisfy NIST SP 800-37 requirements.
