As a Sr. Lead Software Engineer-Full Stack/Java/AWS within the Corporate and Investment Banking Payments Technology team, you will serve as a core technical contributor in an agile environment. You are responsible for owning the technical strategy and architecture for mission-critical applications, leading and mentoring a team of software engineers, and driving the design of high-performance backend services. Your daily work involves building cloud-native applications using Java, React, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Oracle Database. You will implement REST and gRPC APIs, manage Kubernetes-based engineering efforts, and utilize AWS, Azure, or GCP platforms. You must design highly resilient, share-nothing, multi-region architectures for banking and payments systems while integrating AI-assisted engineering practices and managing service registries for dynamic discovery in distributed microservices environments.

What you'll do

Own the technical strategy and architecture for mission-critical applications aligned with business goals.
Lead and mentor a team of software engineers to provide guidance and professional development.
Drive the design and implementation of high-performance backend services using Java and cloud-native technologies.
Set and enforce standards for REST and gRPC API design, versioning, and documentation.
Champion the development of resilient, share-nothing, multi-region architectures for high availability.
Manage service registries for dynamic service discovery and orchestration in microservices environments.
Promote the creation of custom frameworks and reusable components to accelerate development.
Drive the adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices across teams.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification on Software Engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Extensive experience in Java and object-oriented programming.
Proven technical leadership delivering solutions with Java, React, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Oracle Database.
Strong experience building cloud-native applications and leading Kubernetes-based engineering efforts.
Hands-on expertise with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Strong background in RESTful and gRPC API design, development, and implementation.
In-depth financial services domain knowledge, including Banking and/or Payments environments and related IT systems.
Proven experience in senior leadership or engineering management roles (preferred).
