Sr. Field Service Engineer joins the Direct Field Service team to provide high-level technical leadership for semiconductor equipment. Serving as an Engineer in Charge and senior technical owner, this individual manages complex troubleshooting, installation execution, upgrades, and recovery projects for critical tool sets. The role involves converting ambiguous problems into structured Model Based Problem Solving artifacts, including test matrices, risk assessments, and executable game plans. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing tool logs and Pareto data to identify failure modes, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and preparing technical reports for executive review. Candidates must possess expertise in semiconductor capital equipment service, installation, and escalation management. Key competencies include advanced technical writing, data analysis, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while ensuring machine performance and reliability within a cleanroom environment through proactive maintenance and sophisticated problem-solving methodologies.
Serve as Engineer in Charge (EIC) and senior technical owner for assigned product lines, installations, and complex escalations.
Develop executable technical plans that define problem scope, success criteria, risk controls, and required resources.
Lead complex troubleshooting from initial containment through hypothesis development to permanent resolution and recurrence prevention.
Create and maintain Model Based Problem Solving (MBPS) artifacts including system models, test matrices, and decision trees.
Manage high-risk work by creating Pre-Task Plans (PTP), risk assessments, and safe-state verifications.
Drive technical recovery for critical down tools, recurring failures, and machine availability gaps.
Analyze tool logs, parts usage, and Pareto data to identify failure modes and sustainable improvement plans.
Train and mentor new hires through on-the-job training, certification support, and structured knowledge transfer.
What we're looking for
A Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, or a related technical field is required for FSE4 (7+ years experience) or FSE5 (10+ years experience).
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of the specified degrees.
Demonstrated success as an EIC, technical lead, escalation owner, installation lead, or project owner for complex semiconductor capital equipment is required.
Ability to create structured problem-solving models, test plans, recovery strategies, risk assessments, and customer-ready reports using technical data and tools.
Ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, managers, customers, and executives.
Willingness to work in a clean room environment while wearing personal protective safety equipment or a cleanroom suit.
Willingness to travel frequently, domestically and internationally, and work various shifts including overtime and on-call as needed.
Deep product knowledge, MBPS expertise, excellent technical writing, and experience developing other FSEs are preferred.
