Specialist, Software Engineering 1 joins the System Software group to architect next-generation, mission-critical solutions and develop core software infrastructure that integrates advanced communications technologies across complex subsystems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to define operational performance requirements, interface hardware and software components, and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle including analysis, design, implementation, integration, and formal testing. The candidate will contribute to test plans, technical documentation, peer reviews, and defect tracking. Required expertise includes embedded real-time software development on VxWorks or Linux platforms using various languages on Windows and Linux systems. Preferred skills include advanced C++, multi-threaded programming, signal processing, control systems theory, and networking fundamentals involving protocols like IP, UDP, TCP, IPSec, DDS, or SNMP to solve complex problems in the defense technology domain.
Architect and develop core software infrastructure for mission-critical communication technologies.
Develop embedded real-time software using VxWorks and Linux operating systems.
Execute all phases of the software development life cycle including requirements analysis, design, and implementation.
Integrate hardware and software components across complex subsystems.
Create and maintain software test plans, procedures, and technical documentation.
Perform peer reviews to identify, track, and repair software defects.
Develop high-performance, multi-threaded applications using C++ or other relevant languages.
Troubleshoot and debug software on embedded targets utilizing Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience, a Graduate degree with 2 years of experience, or 8 years of experience without a degree.
Knowledge and experience in embedded real-time software development using VxWorks or Linux.
Proficiency in programming languages, compilers, and application execution across Windows, Linux, and RTOS platforms.
Ability to participate in all phases of the software development life cycle including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and testing.
Advanced proficiency with C++ (preferred).
Experience with high performance, multi-threaded programming, and troubleshooting on embedded targets using an RTOS (preferred).
