As a Senior Sales Engineer on the Merchant Engineering team, you will serve as a technical advisor to enterprise merchants to design and implement scalable solutions on the Affirm platform. You will lead technical discovery, analyze requirements, and architect end-to-end integrations that address complex merchant challenges while identifying product enhancements for internal teams. Your daily work involves building custom demos, creating reusable assets, and providing architectural input into sales planning. The role requires expertise in API integrations, SaaS platforms, enterprise architectures, and payment systems across e-commerce, in-store, and telesales channels. You must possess strong communication skills to explain complex concepts and have a technical mind capable of writing scripts in at least one programming language. This position focuses on solving merchant checkout and payment challenges within the fintech and financial infrastructure space.
Lead technical discovery and analyze requirements to identify well-architected solutions for enterprise merchants.
Architect end-to-end technical solutions that address complex integration challenges and custom merchant needs.
Serve as a subject matter expert on Affirm’s integration solutions and the competitive payment landscape.
Act as the "voice of the customer" to provide actionable insights for product development and feature prioritization.
Create reusable assets, training materials, and best practices to improve go-to-market efficiency.
Develop pre-sales support materials, documentation, and custom demonstrations for new products and features.
Identify technical risks early and collaborate with Sales Operations to design scalable engagement models.
What we're looking for
BA/BS degree in business or technology, or equivalent technical account management experience.
4+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solution Architecture, Partner Engineering, technical sales, or pre-sales roles.
3+ years of current experience in the payments, fintech, or closely related industry (preferred).
Strong technical acumen in API integrations, SaaS platforms, and enterprise architectures, specifically regarding checkout processes and payment systems (preferred).
Extensive experience with Ecomm, In-Store, and Telesales checkout and payment solutions (preferred).
Ability to write scripts in at least one programming language.
Experience architecting and technically positioning solutions for e-commerce platforms, payment gateways, and point of sale systems.
Executive presence and strong relationship-building skills (preferred).
