As a Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer in the Facilities & Engineering group, you will lead technical projects and drive innovation for PLC-based processes and utility skid equipment automation, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. You will collaborate closely with the capital project team to design, build, commission, and qualify new systems for drug substance production, developing domain expertise to support operations post-start-up. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing operational readiness support, troubleshooting complex issues, managing system administration, and maintaining detailed specifications and SOPs. You must have extensive experience in process control engineering, PLC programming, and lifecycle management of automation systems, along with knowledge of industry standards such as 21 CFR Part 11 and GMP guidelines. This role requires a strong background in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and the ability to mentor and guide the Automation Engineering team supporting continuous manufacturing operations.

What you'll do

  • Lead technical projects to design, build, commission, and qualify new equipment for drug substance production.
  • Develop process control automation solutions for PLC-based systems in collaboration with the site process engineering team.
  • Ensure standalone PLC systems are designed with proper network connectivity for centralized monitoring and alarming.
  • Provide 24/7 operational support, troubleshoot issues, manage maintenance, and handle spare parts for automation systems.
  • Act as system owner for standalone PLC systems, managing day-to-day operations and supporting plant and manufacturing operations.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive experience with process and utility skid equipment automation.
  • Direct knowledge of integrating OEM automation software and field instrumentation technologies.
  • Experience in PLC programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management.
  • In-depth understanding of industry standards such as 21 CFR Part 11, GMP, and GAMP.
  • Ability to lead technical projects and provide guidance to the Automation Engineering team.
  • Experience in capital project lifecycle management from conceptual design to validation.
