The Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer - PLC Systems joins the Facilities & Engineering group to lead technical projects and drive innovation for PLC based processes and utility skid equipment automation. This role involves designing, building, commissioning, and qualifying new equipment for drug substance production while providing leadership to the Automation Engineering team. Key responsibilities include site design, construction, operational readiness, and 24/7 troubleshooting for manufacturing and facility operations. The position requires expertise in Rockwell platforms, field instrumentation technologies, and programming for PLC and field devices. Candidates must navigate complex engineering problems within a biopharmaceutical production environment, ensuring compliance with industry standards like 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, S95, GAMP, GDP, and GMP. The work focuses on integrating advanced manufacturing technologies into a flexible batch facility.
Lead technical projects and drive innovation for PLC-based processes and utility skid equipment automation.
Partner with capital project teams to design, build, commission, and qualify new drug substance production systems.
Develop process control automation solutions and ensure proper network connectivity for centralized monitoring.
Provide 24/7 onsite and on-call operational support, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and system administration.
Lead technical root cause analysis and incident investigations for process control issues related to plant operations.
Perform automation engineering assessments and configuration changes to support new product or technology introductions.
Develop and maintain detailed specifications, SOPs, and cGMP documents for manufacturing systems.
Mentor and develop the site's technical automation capabilities and engineering staff.
What we're looking for
High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of Engineering experience OR Associate’s Degree and 8 years of Engineering experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of Engineering experience OR Master’s Degree and 2 years of Engineering experience OR Doctorate Degree.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Biotech Engineering (preferred).
Extensive experience with process and utility skid equipment and integrating OEM automation software and field instrumentation technologies like Rockwell platforms (preferred).
Direct knowledge of Automation System design, process control engineering, and troubleshooting with GMP biopharmaceutical production facility equipment/systems automation (preferred).
Experience in programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management of PLC and field device/instrumentation technologies (preferred).
Extensive understanding of manufacturing process controls, automation, and field instrumentation technologies (preferred).
In-depth knowledge of industry standards such as 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, S95, GAMP, GDP, and GMP (preferred).
Experience in Capital Project Lifecycle Management including conceptual design, basis of design, detailed design, implementation, and validation (preferred).
