Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer: Building Automation Systems (BAS) serves as a technical leader within the Facilities & Engineering Automation team. This role involves providing leadership to engineers responsible for building and maintaining automation systems that support GMP Drug Substance Plant Operations. You will collaborate with capital project teams to deliver robust building automation systems and PLC-based process and utility skid equipment. Key responsibilities include site design, construction, startup, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance in a GxP environment. You will manage system administration, maintenance procedures, and technical root cause analysis for facility utilities. The role requires expertise in PLC programming, field instrumentation, and integration of OEM automation software. Essential skills include knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S95, and GAMP 5 standards to ensure data integrity and safety within a high-tech drug substance manufacturing facility.
Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers building and maintaining automation systems for drug substance manufacturing.
Design and implement building automation systems (BAS) and PLC-based process and utility skid equipment.
Develop engineering documentation, maintenance procedures, and support computerized systems validation in a GxP environment.
Manage commissioning and qualification efforts including Installation Verification and Automation Check Out.
Lead vendor Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure control strategies and software codes meet company requirements.
Act as the system owner for building automation and PLC systems, managing administration, spare parts, and job plans.
Drive Change Controls, CAPAs, and Deviations to ensure equipment reliability and regulatory compliance.
Lead root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for utility and building automation systems.
What we're looking for
High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of engineering experience, Associate’s Degree and 8 years, Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years, or Master’s Degree and 2 years of experience.
A Doctorate degree is accepted as a qualifying education level.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
Experience with building automation systems (BAS), PLC based process/utility skid equipment, and integrating various OEM automation software (preferred).
Knowledge of industry standards such as 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S95, GAMP 5, and GDP (preferred).
Experience in programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management of building automation controls and field instrumentation technologies (preferred).
Strong leadership, technical writing, and communication/presentation skills.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
