The Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer: Building Automation Systems (BAS) joins the Facilities & Engineering Automation team to provide technical leadership for automation engineers. This role involves building and maintaining automation systems and platforms supporting GMP Drug Substance Plant Operations. Key responsibilities include site design, construction, start-up, and operational readiness for building automation systems and PLC-based process and utility skid equipment. The engineer will develop engineering documentation, support computerized systems validation in a GxP environment, and lead vendor factory acceptance testing. Required skills include experience with BMS design, PLC programming, and field instrumentation technologies. The role addresses the technical challenge of integrating industry 4.0 capabilities and sustainability innovations into a new drug substance manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with standards like 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S95, and GAMP 5.
Provide automation technical leadership to a team of engineers building and maintaining GMP Drug Substance Plant systems.
Develop automation solutions for building automation systems (BAS) and PLC-based process and utility skid equipment.
Create and maintain engineering documentation, maintenance procedures, and computerized systems validation in a GxP environment.
Support commissioning and qualification efforts, including Automation Installation Verification and Automation Check Out (IV/ACO).
Lead vendor Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure control strategies and software codes meet company requirements.
Act as system owner for BAS and PLC systems, managing administration, job plans, spare parts, and engineering documentation.
Drive Change Controls, CAPAs, and Deviations to ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance.
Perform technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for utilities and building automation systems.
What we're looking for
High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of engineering experience, Associate’s with 8 years, Bachelor’s with 4 years, or Master’s with 2 years of engineering experience.
Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
Degree in Electrical, Computer, Chemical, or Biotech Engineering (preferred).
Experience in programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management of building automation controls, PLC, and field instrumentation (preferred).
Knowledge of BMS design and troubleshooting with GMP biopharmaceutical production facility and utility equipment automation (preferred).
Knowledge of industry standards such as 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S95, GAMP 5, and GDP (preferred).
Ability to interpret and apply GAMPs and GMPs in a highly regulated environment (preferred).
Strong leadership, technical writing, and communication skills (preferred).
