The Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer joins the Manufacturing & Clinical Supplies Facilities & Engineering Automation team to lead technical projects for Clinical & Commercial Plant Automation programs and capital projects. This role involves leading complex automation initiatives, performing root cause analysis, and troubleshooting process control issues. The engineer will design, build, commission, and qualify new equipment, including sophisticated unit operation skids for drug substance and drug product manufacturing. Key responsibilities include developing process control solutions using DeltaV Distributed Control Systems, Rockwell Programmable Logic Controllers, Human Machine Interfaces, and SCADA systems on Virtual Server infrastructure. Required technical skills include experience with OPC, Profibus, and DeviceNet technologies, as well as compliance with 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, S95, and GAMP standards within a biopharmaceutical production environment.
Lead technical projects as the automation lead for complex capital construction and lifecycle asset management projects.
Develop and maintain process control solutions using DeltaV DCS, Rockwell PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
Support functional area projects to integrate new drug substance and drug product manufacturing technologies into facilities.
Lead technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for process control issues in plant operations.
Partner with capital project teams to design, build, commission, and qualify new equipment and systems.
Support commissioning and qualification efforts including automation installation verification, checkout, and functional testing.
Develop and maintain detailed specifications, Standard Operating Procedures, and operating standards for multiple organizational units.
Provide leadership and mentoring to the automation engineering team to develop site technical capabilities.
What we're looking for
Must have a Doctorate and 2 years of Manufacturing Automation Systems Engineering experience, or a Master’s and 2 years, or a Bachelor’s and 4 years, or a High school diploma/GED and 10 years.
Must have extensive background in process control and automation systems, capital construction projects, and engineering project lifecycle phases.
Must be able to develop and maintain process control solutions using DeltaV DCS, Rockwell PLCs, HMI, and SCADA on Virtual Server infrastructure.
Must lead technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for process control issues in plant operations.
Must support Commissioning & Qualification efforts including Automation Installation Verification, Automation Checkout, and Functional Testing.
Must develop and maintain detailed specifications, Standard Operating Procedures, and Operating standards for multiple organizational units.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Biotech Engineering (preferred).
Must have 3+ years of combined experience with Emerson Delta-V DCS, Rockwell Automation SCADA/PLC, and Electronic Batch Reporting Systems (preferred).
