Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer: Automation PLC serves as a technical leader within the Facilities & Engineering Automation team, overseeing engineers responsible for building and maintaining automation systems for GMP Drug Substance Plant Operations. The role involves developing and maintaining solutions using Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, integrating with Emerson DeltaV, and managing SCADA, Trailblazer reporting systems, and interface hardware. Key responsibilities include leading capital projects, performing root cause analysis, supporting new product introductions, and ensuring data integrity in a GxP environment. The position requires expertise in Rockwell industrial automation, OPC, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and DeviceNet technologies while adhering to 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP standards. This role solves complex integration challenges for plant utilities and standalone systems, transforming process requirements into digital automated solutions within a high-tech drug substance manufacturing facility.
Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers building and maintaining automation systems for drug substance plant operations.
Develop and maintain PLC solutions using Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms integrated with the Emerson DeltaV system.
Manage SCADA, Trailblazer reporting systems, and various equipment interface hardware.
Lead the design and implementation of control panels, HMI layouts, and power distribution for standalone systems.
Translate process requirements from subject matter experts into automated digital solutions.
Conduct root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for standalone systems and manufacturing utilities.
Support new product and technology introductions by performing automation engineering assessments and configuration changes.
Provide 24/7 on-call operational support, including preventative maintenance and spare parts management.
What we're looking for
High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of Engineering experience, Associate’s Degree and 8 years, Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years, or Master’s Degree and 2 years of experience.
Doctorate degree is accepted as a qualifying education level.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Biotech Engineering (preferred).
Experience with PLC design, controls engineering, and troubleshooting in GMP biopharmaceutical production environments (preferred).
Expertise in Rockwell industrial automation hardware, SCADA systems, and integration technologies like OPC, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and DeviceNet (preferred).
Ability to interpret and apply GAMPs, GMPs, 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, and S95 standards (preferred).
Experience in Capital Project Lifecycle Management including conceptual design, scope/cost estimation, and validation documentation (preferred).
Strong leadership, technical writing, and communication skills are required.
