Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer: Automation - DeltaV serves as a technical leader within the Facilities & Engineering Automation team, overseeing engineers responsible for building and maintaining automation systems for GMP Drug Substance Plant Operations. This role involves developing and maintaining process control systems on the Emerson DeltaV distributed control system while collaborating with subject matter experts to transform requirements into digital automated solutions. Key responsibilities include managing capital projects, performing root cause analysis, supporting new product introductions, and ensuring data integrity in a GxP environment. The position requires expertise in DeltaV Live, OPC, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and DeviceNet technologies. Candidates must navigate complex manufacturing environments involving bioreactors, chromatography, and viral filtration while adhering to 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, and S95 standards to ensure robust process automation for drug substance production.
Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining automation systems for drug substance manufacturing.
Develop and maintain the Emerson DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) to support plant operations.
Translate process requirements from subject matter experts into digital automated solutions and clear documentation.
Manage the lifecycle of capital projects, including design, engineering policies, and commissioning/qualification efforts in a GxP environment.
Lead root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting for process control issues and equipment failures.
Execute change controls, CAPAs, and deviations while ensuring compliance with data integrity standards.
Support new product and technology introductions by performing automation engineering assessments and configuration changes.
Provide 24/7 on-call operational support for manufacturing systems, including system administration and spare parts management.
What we're looking for
Must have a High School Diploma and 10 years of experience, Associate’s and 8 years, Bachelor’s and 4 years, or Master’s and 2 years of engineering experience.
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Must have experience with Emerson DeltaV distributed control systems (DCS) and DeltaV Live.
Must possess extensive knowledge in programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management of manufacturing process controls and instrumentation.
Experience with process control network design, including virtual infrastructure and integration using OPC, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and DeviceNet is preferred.
Must be able to interpret and apply GAMPs, GMPs, 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, and S95 standards.
Experience in Capital Project Lifecycle Management including conceptual design, scope/cost estimation, and validation documentation is preferred.
