TL;DR · Senior Industrial Engineer, Layouts

Senior Industrial Engineer, Layouts joins the Manufacturing Design Team to own and scale the company’s central manufacturing layout capability as a durable, enterprise-wide asset. This role involves architecting a centralized repository for production layouts, creating CAD shape libraries of standard components, and establishing organization-wide standards for file formats, naming conventions, and revision control. The engineer will design production lines and workstations using data-driven approaches, incorporating cell design, material flow paths, and ergonomic considerations. Key responsibilities include performing space utilization analyses, identifying spatial bottlenecks, and translating complex layout decisions into 2D plans and 3D renderings for stakeholders. The role requires expertise in facility design, including building shell integration and utility routing, alongside proficiency in Lean Manufacturing principles like U-cells and one-piece flow. Candidates must navigate high-mix manufacturing environments to ensure production layouts integrate seamlessly with physical plant infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Architect and manage the enterprise manufacturing layout capability as a durable, scalable system rather than one-off drawings.
  • Design data-driven production line and workstation layouts incorporating cell design, material flow, and ergonomic considerations.
  • Establish and maintain a centralized CAD library of standard manufacturing elements to ensure consistency across all sites.
  • Define and implement enterprise standards for layout creation, including file formats, naming conventions, and revision control.
  • Integrate manufacturing floor plans with building infrastructure, such as utility routing and dock placement, in coordination with Real Estate teams.
  • Perform space utilization analyses and density metrics to link layout decisions directly to production rate targets.
  • Translate complex technical layouts into 2D plans and 3D renderings for non-specialist stakeholder review and approval.
  • Mentor engineers on layout best practices and establish high standards for spatial planning across the organization.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience with overall facility design including building shell, infrastructure integration, dock/staging design, and utility routing.
  • Experience establishing centralized layout management capabilities including repository architecture, CAD standards, and shape libraries.
  • Experience designing and commissioning new production lines or factories from greenfield projects.
  • Experience in high-mix, complex manufacturing, production ramp, or multi-site environments.
  • Experience with 3D factory visualization and walkthrough tools for stakeholder review.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing layout principles including cellular manufacturing, one-piece flow, and 5S integration.
  • Active security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
