The Senior Consulting Engineer joins the Application Modernization Platform team to lead end-to-end data migration engagements from relational and NoSQL estates onto MongoDB. You will manage the full consulting lifecycle, including source assessment, strategy planning, schema transformation, and production cutover with minimal downtime. Key responsibilities involve designing change data capture pipelines using Kafka, Debezium, and cloud-native replication services while building AI-driven tooling for automated validation and conversion. The role requires deep expertise in platforms like Apache Cassandra, Azure Cosmos DB, and Amazon DocumentDB, alongside proficiency in relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL. Candidates must possess strong programming skills in Java, Python, Node.js, C#, or Go to build pipeline glue and validation harnesses. You will solve complex migration risks by creating new playbooks and reference architectures for enterprise-scale data movements.
Lead the end-to-end technical delivery of data migration engagements including assessment, strategy, and production cutover.
Design and operate change data capture (CDC) pipelines using Kafka, Debezium, and other cloud-native replication services.
Provide expert consulting to enterprise customers regarding legacy database risks and modernization strategies.
Partner with sales teams to scope projects, size migration opportunities, and develop statements of work.
Develop and harden AI-driven tooling for automated assessment, schema conversion, and data validation.
Create reusable assets such as migration playbooks, reference architectures, and estimation models.
Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to influence the MongoDB product and tooling roadmap.
What we're looking for
Degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field.
5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or consulting delivery roles focused on data platforms and movement at production scale.
Hands-on experience with at least one distributed NoSQL platform such as Apache Cassandra, Azure Cosmos DB, or Amazon DocumentDB.
Real-world experience with CDC and streaming pipelines using tools like Kafka, Confluent Platform, Debezium, or equivalent technologies.
Solid grounding in relational databases including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, Node.js, C#, or Go to build pipeline glue and tooling.
Working fluency with AI in real engineering workflows.
Excellent customer interaction and presentation skills for both technical and executive audiences.
