TL;DR · RF Test System Development Engineer, Avionics Verification and Test

As an RF Test System Development Engineer within the Avionics Verification and Test team for Amazon Leo, you will own the full lifecycle of complex RF test systems and hardware development for spacecraft avionics and payload sub-systems. You will architect, design, and sustain test systems for satellite modems, transceivers, BUCs, and LNBs while performing path loss calibration, link budget analysis, and end-to-end signal chain verification. Your daily work involves BOM-level CAD design, developing test procedures, and automating processes to meet production targets. You will utilize tools such as SolidWorks, Ansys, Python, C/C++, LabVIEW, and various RF measurement equipment including spectrum analyzers and network analyzers. This role addresses the critical challenge of ensuring reliable operation of satellite vehicles in space by providing robust hardware development capabilities and scalable test automation solutions for high-rate manufacturing environments.

What you'll do

  • Architect, design, and maintain RF test systems for satellite modems, transceivers, and ground equipment.
  • Perform RF path loss calibration, link budget analysis, and end-to-end signal chain verification.
  • Create BOM-level CAD designs including rack layouts, cable harness routing, and mechanical fixtures.
  • Develop test plans by decomposing verification requirements into testable specifications and procedures.
  • Design and deliver hardware, fixtures, and tooling to optimize production throughput and yield.
  • Maintain calibration procedures, path loss models, and measurement uncertainty budgets for RF stations.
  • Automate and optimize test processes to meet high-rate manufacturing and first-pass yield targets.
  • Perform root cause analysis on test failures and lead corrective actions for production systems.

What we're looking for

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and executing test plans for complex aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics systems.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and integrating test systems for hardware/PCBA validation.
  • Experience with RF path loss calibration, measurement uncertainty analysis, and signal chain characterization.
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (preferred).
  • 7+ years hands-on with RF subsystems, PCBAs, or high-speed signal characterization (preferred).
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools (preferred).
  • Test plan development per space hardware standards like GEVS / SMC-S-016 (preferred).
