TL;DR · Interdisciplinary RF System Test and Hardware Development Engineer, Avionics Verification and Test

Interdisciplinary RF System Test and Hardware Development Engineer, Avionics Verification and Test, Amazon Leo is a role within the Avionics Verification and Test team. You will own the full lifecycle of complex RF test systems and hardware development for spacecraft avionics and payload sub-systems. Responsibilities include architecting, designing, and sustaining test systems for satellite modems, transceivers, BUCs, and LNBs. You will perform path loss calibration, link budget analysis, and end-to-end signal chain verification while managing BOM-level CAD designs for rack layouts and cable routing. The role requires proficiency in Python, R, Matlab, or STATA, along with experience using power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, and network analyzers. You will solve technical challenges related to space qualification testing, test automation, and high-rate manufacturing to ensure the reliable operation of satellite vehicles in orbit.

What you'll do

  • Architect and maintain RF test systems for satellite modems, transceivers, and ground equipment.
  • Perform RF path loss calibration, link budget analysis, and end-to-end signal chain verification.
  • Create BOM-level CAD designs including rack layouts, cable routing, and mechanical fixtures.
  • Develop test plans by decomposing requirements into specifications and leading readiness reviews.
  • Design hardware, tools, and fixtures to optimize production throughput and fault coverage.
  • Maintain calibration procedures, path loss models, and measurement uncertainty budgets for test stations.
  • Automate and optimize test processes to meet manufacturing yield and production rate targets.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on test failures and lead corrective actions for production systems.

What we're looking for

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and executing test plans for complex aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics systems.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and integrating test systems for hardware/PCBA validation.
  • Experience with RF path loss calibration, measurement uncertainty analysis, and signal chain characterization.
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience coding in scripting languages such as Python, R, Matlab, or STATA.
  • Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent (preferred).
  • 10+ years hands-on with RF subsystems, PCBAs, or high-speed signal characterization (preferred).
  • Test plan development per space hardware standards (GEVS / SMC-S-016) (preferred).
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and modern dev practices like AI, source control, and CI/CD (preferred).
