The Principal Structural Engineer joins the Data Center Engineering team to serve as a structural subject matter expert for large-scale data center infrastructure. This role provides technical direction and oversight for the design, construction administration, retrofits, and master planning of multi-disciplinary projects across the AMERS region. The individual will lead the development of innovative structural designs, manage geographically diverse teams, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external consultants to ensure quality standards are met. Key responsibilities include providing guidance on site due diligence, permitting, and advanced engineering for mission-critical facilities in various seismic zones and climates. Required skills include expertise in commercial and industrial architecture, as well as proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Bluebeam, and BIM 360 software to facilitate the design and review of complex data center environments.
Provide structural engineering technical direction and oversight for AMERS-region data center designs.
Deliver innovative structural design concepts for current and next-generation data centers, retrofits, and renovations.
Perform site selection support, due diligence, master planning, and permitting activities.
Manage and lead geographically diverse teams of engineers in advanced engineering processes.
Review construction plans and provide technical guidance to ensure designs meet quality standards.
Coordinate with external A/E consultants and general contractors to oversee project execution.
Develop low embodied carbon structural design solutions for large-scale infrastructure.
Navigate BIM, Revit, and AutoCAD software to review and develop data center designs.
What we're looking for
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field and 7+ years of technical engineering experience, or Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience.
Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check requirements.
Professional Engineering license in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering (preferred).
Doctorate in Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering and 5+ years experience, Master's and 8+ years, or Bachelor's and 12+ years of experience (preferred).
Licensure as a Professional Structural Engineer or the ability to obtain it within one year (preferred).
8+ years of experience in mission critical data center or large scale critical facilities structural design (preferred).
Knowledge of data center architecture, diverse climates, seismic zones, and low embodied carbon solutions (preferred).
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Bluebeam, and BIM 360 software for design review (preferred).
