TL;DR · Principal Mechanical Engineer

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will independently design and develop mechanical systems, including components, enclosures, and packaging for server generations, storage, and networking infrastructure. You will manage the full lifecycle of hardware products, from initial feasibility studies to production transition, ensuring reliability and manufacturability. Your daily work involves creating 3D models using CAD tools like ProE, SolidWorks, or NX, while performing structural analysis through FEA and thermal management via CFD tools such as FloTHERM or Icepak. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve defects, conduct environmental testing, and integrate new materials into data center and cloud application products. Key technical competencies include GD&T, DFM/DFA, and experience with sheet metal, machined parts, and injection molding to solve complex electro-mechanical challenges in high-power systems and rack-level platforms.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, components, enclosures, and packaging using advanced CAD tools like SolidWorks or ProE.
  • Develop thermal cooling strategies and mechanical architectures for server generations from feasibility studies to production.
  • Perform stress, strain, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate the structural integrity of materials and components.
  • Conduct root cause and corrective action analysis to identify failure points and improve product reliability.
  • Manage the transition of designs from prototype to mass production while ensuring manufacturability and cost constraints.
  • Execute thermal management simulations using CFD tools like FloTHERM or Icepak to optimize cooling for electronic devices.
  • Lead environmental testing, vibration testing, and qualification processes to ensure compliance with global regulatory standards.
  • Manage project timelines, documentation, and cross-functional coordination to ensure successful delivery of engineering goals.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience with complex electro-mechanical products like servers, storage, or networking infrastructure.
  • Expert proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo/ProEngineer, SolidWorks, or NX for 3D modeling and production drawing release.
  • Extensive experience designing sheet metal, machined parts, plastics, die-cast components, and integrated assemblies.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including stamping, machining, injection molding, and supplier qualification.
  • Proven ability to lead tolerance strategy, GD&T, DFM/DFA, BOM creation, and engineering change processes.
  • Experience leading prototype builds, mechanical validation, environmental testing, vibration testing, and thermal characterization.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams through complex trade-offs regarding manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
