TL;DR · Principal Signal Integrity Simulation Engineer

As a Principal Signal Integrity Simulation Engineer, you will join the Microsoft Quantum team to develop end-to-end simulation methodologies for next-generation quantum computing systems. You will be responsible for defining signal integrity strategies across room-temperature electronics, cryogenic infrastructure, Cryo-CMOS subsystems, and packaging. Your daily work involves developing system-level models to predict signal fidelity, crosstalk, timing, noise, and bandwidth limitations while conducting architecture trade studies to optimize performance before hardware implementation. The role requires expertise in RF engineering, electromagnetic simulation, transmission line theory, and high-speed interconnect design. You will utilize industry-standard tools such as Cadence, Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, AWR, COMSOL, and SPICE-based tools, alongside Python for automation and data analysis. This role solves critical signal integrity challenges within the quantum control and readout stack to ensure reliable performance in complex cryogenic environments.

What you'll do

  • Lead the end-to-end signal integrity simulation strategy for quantum systems across room-temperature and cryogenic environments.
  • Develop system-level models to predict signal fidelity, crosstalk, timing, noise, and bandwidth limitations.
  • Conduct architecture trade studies and design decisions using simulation-based analysis to identify risks before hardware implementation.
  • Establish modeling standards and validation practices using electromagnetic, circuit, behavioral, and system-level tools.
  • Define interface requirements and performance metrics for Cryo-CMOS, packaging, and qubit design teams.
  • Document designs and methodologies to ensure reproducibility and seamless integration across the organization.
  • Utilize Python-based automation and AI tools to accelerate modeling, simulation, and data analysis workflows.

What we're looking for

  • A Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or Physics with 3+ years of experience, a Master's with 6+ years, or a Bachelor's with 8+ years is required.
  • Candidates must provide proof of citizenship or U.S. permanent residency to access export-controlled information.
  • Must be able to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check and meet government security screening requirements.
  • Extensive experience in signal integrity, RF engineering, electromagnetic simulation, or system-level modeling is required.
  • Experience using industry-standard tools like Cadence, Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, AWR, COMSOL, or SPICE-based tools is required.
  • Experience with cryogenic electronics, Cryo-CMOS systems, superconducting systems, or quantum computing hardware is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python-based simulation, automation, and data analysis workflows is required.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering.
