As a Principal Presales Customer Engineer, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor and primary architect within the go-to-market organization. You will guide enterprise clients through the entire journey, from initial pre-sales technical validation and architectural design to onboarding and long-term expansion. Your daily work involves mapping complex infrastructure—including DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, Network Security, and Workers—to tailored solutions while managing a variable quota for new business growth. To succeed, you must possess expertise in internet fundamentals like BGP, TCP/UDP, and SSL/TLS; security protocols such as WAF and SASE; and performance optimization. You will utilize AI-augmented workflows, LLMs, and scripting languages like Python, JavaScript, or Go to automate tasks. This role solves critical challenges regarding the security, performance, and reliability of internet properties for diverse enterprise customers.
Lead technical discovery and map complex customer infrastructure to Cloudflare products like DNS, CDN, and Zero Trust.
Design and present tailored architectural diagrams and demonstrations to address specific security and performance challenges.
Manage the full customer lifecycle from pre-sales validation through onboarding, deployment architecture, and expansion.
Create migration blueprints and provide technical guidance to customer engineering teams during implementation.
Drive revenue growth by identifying cross-sell opportunities and leading technical Quarterly Business Reviews for C-level executives.
Utilize AI tools and LLMs to automate routine tasks like RFP responses and internal documentation.
Develop and document standard operating procedures and technical guides to enable internal teams and customers.
What we're looking for
Must have experience in customer-facing technical roles such as Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Technical Account Management.
Must possess an architectural mindset to design and articulate complex enterprise network and security architectures.
Must have the ability to translate deeply technical concepts into business outcomes for both engineers and C-level executives.
Must have a proven track record of operating in a quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environment.
Candidates must demonstrate depth in at least four areas: Internet fundamentals, Security, Performance, AI Proficiency, Coding/Scripting, or Developer Platform Fluency.
Preferred experience includes technical enablement, advanced LLM orchestration, and knowledge of regulatory requirements like PCI DSS or SOC 2.
Must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Must be authorized to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export control laws.
