The Principal Industrial Simulation Engineer leads the development, execution, and analysis of simulation and emulation models for advanced manufacturing operations. This role involves building discrete-event, agent-based, or continuous flow models to optimize throughput, validate system designs, and support strategic decision making for complex production environments. The engineer will create emulation environments to test automation equipment, PLC logic, and MES interactions while identifying improvement opportunities using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Key responsibilities include performing scenario modeling for capacity and bottleneck analysis, providing technical justification for capital investments, and supporting new product introductions. Required expertise includes proficiency in tools like Emulate 3D, FlexSim, Arena, or AnyLogic, along with skills in Python, SQL, and Power BI. The role solves critical manufacturing challenges by translating real-world processes into accurate digital twins to improve operational efficiency.
Develop discrete-event, agent-based, or continuous flow simulation models for manufacturing lines and end-to-end processes.
Build emulation environments to virtually test automation equipment, PLC logic, and MES integration scenarios.
Validate model accuracy through data analysis, time studies, and collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
Conduct scenario modeling to evaluate capacity, bottlenecks, throughput, labor requirements, and equipment utilization.
Identify improvement opportunities using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to provide data-driven recommendations for layout and automation.
Provide technical justification and ROI analysis for capital investments or operational changes.
Integrate simulation into project execution by developing specifications, training documents, and execution plans.
Maintain complex models using platforms like Emulate 3D, FlexSim, Arena, or AnyLogic while interfacing with external systems.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
8+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing simulation, emulation, or industrial engineering roles.
Demonstrated expertise with discrete-event simulation tools such as Emulate 3D, AnyLogic, Plant Simulation, FlexSim, or Arena.
Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, automation systems, line balancing, cycle-time analysis, and throughput modeling.
Proficiency in data analysis tools including Excel, SQL, and Power BI.
Demonstrated expertise in programming languages such as Python.
Experience interpreting PLC logic, MES workflows, or automation system behavior (preferred).
Background in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (preferred).
