Principal Hardware Architect – ASIC & System Integration, Cisco Silicon One serves as a key technical authority within the networking organization to drive architectural strategy across cross-functional groups and strategic customer accounts. This role involves designing, developing, and testing complex ASICs while managing the transition from initial concept to field deployment. The position requires expertise in system architecture, hardware and software design, FPGA and ASIC design and verification, system bring-up, debug, and thermal design. Candidates must possess extensive experience in signal and power integrity, as well as technical skills in drafting white papers and providing training for customer-oriented events. The work focuses on the development of high-performance Silicon ASICs using 2.5D fanout technologies to solve complex networking challenges across data centers, service provider networks, and enterprise environments through a unified routing and switching portfolio.
Drive architectural strategy across internal cross-functional groups and strategic customer accounts.
Act as the technical link between product innovation and market success from concept to deployment.
Manage trade-offs between signal integrity, power integrity, thermal design, cost, and schedule for hardware systems.
Engage with customers to incorporate their feedback into future product designs and roadmaps.
Collaborate with marketing teams to define and communicate future product architectures.
Participate in industry standards committees to influence technical practices and standards.
Coordinate with external vendors to ensure they deliver components that meet internal requirements.
Author white papers, user tutorials, and technical documentation for the marketplace and customer events.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ years of experience, Master's with 12+ years, or PhD with 8+ years of signal and power integrity experience.
At least 5 years of experience driving system architecture for hardware systems including trade-offs between signal/power integrity, thermal design, cost, and schedule.
At least 5 years of experience driving cross-functional buy-in and approval of complex strategic programs with executive management.
At least 5 years of experience generating, reviewing, and presenting customer-facing materials for strategic projects.
Proficiency in system architecture, hardware/software design, FPGA and ASIC design and verification, and thermal design (preferred).
Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences both verbally and in writing (preferred).
Strong documentation and organizational skills including defining workflows and driving trade-offs to resolution (preferred).
Experience building technical relationships across customer architects, software teams, and network product teams (preferred).
