Principal Hardware Architect – ASIC & System Integration, Cisco Silicon One serves as a key technical authority within the networking organization to drive architectural strategy across cross-functional groups and strategic customer accounts. This role involves designing, developing, and testing complex ASICs while managing the transition from initial concept to field deployment. The individual will manage trade-offs between signal integrity, power integrity, thermal design, total power consumption, cost, and schedule. Key responsibilities include participating in standards committees, collaborating with hardware, software, and test engineering teams, and authoring white papers for the marketplace. Required expertise includes FPGA and ASIC design and verification, system bring-up, and debug. The role addresses complex networking challenges by developing high-performance silicon devices that power large-scale data centers and service provider networks using advanced 2.5D fanout technologies and sophisticated signaling methods.
Drive architectural strategy across internal cross-functional groups and strategic customer accounts.
Act as the technical link between product innovation and real-world market success from concept to deployment.
Incorporate customer feedback into future products in collaboration with product management and engineering teams.
Work with product marketing to define and develop future product architectures.
Participate in industry standards committees to influence prevailing practices.
Coordinate with hardware, software, and test engineering teams to ensure high-quality product delivery.
Manage relationships with external vendors to ensure they meet requirements for upcoming products.
Author white papers, user tutorials, and technical content for the marketplace and customer events.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ years of experience, Master's with 12+ years, or PhD with 8+ years of signal and power integrity experience.
At least 5 years of experience driving system architecture for hardware systems including trade-offs between signal integrity, power, thermal design, cost, and schedule.
At least 5 years of experience driving cross-functional buy-in and approval of complex strategic programs with executive management.
At least 5 years of experience generating, reviewing, and presenting customer-facing materials for strategic projects.
Proficiency in system architecture, hardware/software design (including FPGA and ASIC), system bring-up, debug, and thermal design (preferred).
Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences both verbally and in writing (preferred).
Strong organizational skills including defining workflows, setting agendas, and driving trade-offs to resolution with stakeholders (preferred).
Experience building technical relationships across customer architects, software teams, and network product teams (preferred).
