As a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer on the SPLAT team, you will serve as a hands-on technical leader responsible for critical platform services including secure API routing, service registration, traffic management, and authentication. You will also mentor engineers, define service contracts, and manage capacity planning for services processing billions of requests. What you'll do

Lead large-scale systems from initial problem definition and design through implementation and production validation.
Translate complex requirements into technical designs while balancing trade-offs between availability, consistency, latency, and cost.
Write and review secure, maintainable, and well-tested Java code for high-throughput services.
Design mechanisms for load shedding, caching, concurrency, and failure recovery in distributed systems.
Lead complex incident investigations and automate recurring failures into preventive engineering improvements.
Provide architectural direction and mentor engineers on design, code review, and incident response.
Align multiple teams on technical decisions, dependencies, and rollout plans across organizational boundaries.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production backend or platform services.
Strong development experience in Java or another modern object-oriented language.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, and production operations.
Experience leading substantial technical initiatives across multiple engineers or teams.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex production issues and improve service reliability.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with high-throughput services, networking, security protocols, cloud infrastructure, or Kubernetes (preferred).
