TL;DR · PNT Timing and Synchronization Engineer

As a PNT Timing and Synchronization Engineer at Amazon Leo Flight Dynamics, you will join a dynamic team focused on developing high-precision synchronization architectures for both terrestrial and space-based networks. Your responsibilities include designing and implementing time transfer systems using protocols such as PTP/NTP, TWSTFT, and GNSS Common View to achieve nanosecond-level accuracy over RF and optical links. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate emerging technologies, monitor system performance, and conduct thorough analysis and troubleshooting of timing infrastructures. The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical engineering or physics, experience with time transfer protocols like HA-PTP and White Rabbit systems, and proficiency in Python for data analysis. This role requires expertise in clock characterization, frequency stability analysis, and understanding of Kalman filtering and time scale algorithms to address complex business challenges in satellite timing systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and validate high-precision synchronization architectures using PTP/NTP, TWSTFT, GNSS Common View protocols.
  • Implement time transfer over RF and optical links to achieve nanosecond-level accuracy.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies for improved timing accuracy in space-based networks.
  • Build operational systems to monitor performance of clock synchronization architecture continuously.
  • Conduct performance analysis and troubleshooting of distributed timing systems across infrastructure.

What we're looking for

  • PhD or Master's degree with at least 4 years of quantitative research experience.
  • Experience in analyzing experimental and observational data sets using advanced tools like Excel, SQL, Python.
  • Proven expertise with various time transfer protocols including PTP/NTP, TWSTFT, GNSS Common View.
  • Strong background in clock characterization and frequency stability analysis for high-precision synchronization.
  • Ability to design and implement operational systems to monitor performance of clock synchronization architecture.
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies and experience with FPGA-based timing hardware or clock steering algorithms.
