TL;DR · Controls Engineer, Amazon Leo Optical Inter-Satellite Link

Join the Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC team as a Controls Engineer for the Amazon LEO Optical Inter-Satellite Link project. This role involves working closely with senior PAT engineers to develop and test pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT) systems for free-space optical links in satellites. Your daily tasks will include analyzing flight telemetry data, running simulations, developing FPGA verification tests, and supporting electrical engineering activities such as board-level testing and troubleshooting. You’ll need proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, experience with lab instrumentation, and a strong background in control system fundamentals. The position requires knowledge of digital/analog signal interfaces, fixed-point concepts, and version control systems like Git. Ideal candidates will have experience in aerospace or defense environments and familiarity with tools such as Vivado/ModelSim for FPGA development and Speedgoat/dSPACE for real-time platforms.

What you'll do

  • Analyze flight telemetry data and correlate with simulation predictions to identify discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain test vectors for PAT FPGA implementations against Simulink reference models.
  • Support electrical design reviews and contribute to trade studies for data converter selection.
  • Assist in debugging board-level issues and support hardware-in-the-loop verification activities.
  • Document RCA findings, discrepancy investigations, and contribute to configuration management records.

What we're looking for

  • BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent required.
  • Professional experience in hardware-adjacent controls, test, or systems engineering.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink for model development and debugging.
  • Experience analyzing flight data to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Familiarity with lab instrumentation and digital/analog signal interfaces.
  • Understanding of control system fundamentals including feedback loops and stability concepts.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and working across interdisciplinary teams.
