The PBS Engineering Managing Director will lead the PBS Engineering organization to own the engineering model and technical delivery for integrating and modernizing the Express Scripts technology ecosystem with the New PBM Platform. This leader will develop a multi-year roadmap, establish engineering practices, and oversee federated workstreams to ensure seamless client transitions. Key responsibilities include defining code and repository strategies, managing CI/CD pipelines, and overseeing end-to-end testing, data conversion, and migration cutovers. The role requires expertise in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery, alongside experience with AI-assisted software development lifecycle practices. You will solve complex technical problems by aligning platform growth with enterprise integration requirements, ensuring that legacy services remain stable while migrating clients to the new platform within a regulated pharmacy benefit management environment.
Develop and drive the three-to-five-year engineering strategy, roadmap, and delivery approach for New PBM Platform integration.
Define the engineering model for code strategy, branching, environments, pipelines, and release governance.
Oversee the integrated execution of workstreams to modernize retained capabilities and build necessary system integrations.
Lead the technical model for transitioning clients from legacy environments to the New PBM Platform through sequenced waves.
Manage data conversion, migration tooling, end-to-end testing, cutover planning, and post-launch stabilization.
Establish standards and executive reporting for delivery health, capacity, risk, and operational performance.
Build and lead a scalable engineering organization across delivery, integrated planning, and technical support teams.
Provide decision-ready recommendations to executive leadership regarding strategic direction, risk tradeoffs, and migration readiness.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience required; advanced degree preferred.
15+ years of progressively responsible experience in technology, engineering, platform delivery, technology strategy, or large-scale transformation.
Significant managerial experience leading sizeable employee and partner populations through multiple layers of senior leaders.
Proven record of developing and executing medium- to long-term strategies and roadmaps with material organizational, operational, financial, and client impact.
Demonstrated experience introducing AI-assisted software development lifecycle (AI-SDLC) practices across engineering teams in a regulated delivery environment.
Demonstrated success influencing executives and leading outcomes across organizational boundaries without relying solely on direct authority.
Strong financial, portfolio, vendor, resource, capacity, risk, and performance-management capabilities.
Experience in healthcare, pharmacy benefit management, regulated technology, or similarly complex transaction-processing environments (preferred).
