Network Security Engineer The Network Security Engineer joins the Customer Support Team to serve as a technical advisor for enterprise customers facing complex infrastructure threats and issues at OSI Layers 3, 4, and 7. The role requires expertise in TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, BGP, anycast routing, and packet capture analysis. Candidates must be proficient with command-line tools like curl, dig, and traceroute, as well as scripting languages including Bash, Python, and JavaScript. Experience with web servers such as Nginx or Apache is also required.

What you'll do

  • Act as a technical advisor to resolve enterprise customer inquiries regarding network security and performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues involving DDoS mitigation, firewall rules, SSL/TLS, and network configurations.
  • Analyze traffic signatures and attributes like IP addresses and HTTP headers to identify malicious activity.
  • Advise customers on filtering malicious traffic using tools such as Magic Transit, WAF, and rate limiting.
  • Create and maintain internal and external knowledge base articles and technical troubleshooting documentation.
  • Utilize generative AI and automation tools to accelerate root-cause analysis during security incidents.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to improve Cloudflare products and internal tools.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of 4 years experience as a Network Security Engineer, Technical Support Engineer, or Sr. Support Engineer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, GCFA, GCFE, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, BGP, and anycast routing.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting network connectivity, BGP routing, GRE tunnels, and performing packet capture analysis.
  • Proficiency with command line tools such as curl, dig, traceroute, openssl, and git.
  • Competency in writing scripts using Bash, Python, JavaScript, or other scripting languages.
  • Export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
