Response Engineer

What you'll do

• Monitor and investigate security alerts to identify and analyze active cyber threats.
• Provide premium technical support to high-value customers regarding infrastructure attacks at OSI Layers 3, 4, and 7.
• Analyze traffic signatures and attributes like IP addresses and HTTP headers to distinguish malicious activity from legitimate traffic.
• Develop and implement mitigation strategies for identified threats on behalf of customers.
• Configure and manage security monitoring rules while contributing to the improvement of internal tools.
• Communicate directly with customers via chat, email, and phone to provide technical intelligence and reporting.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to improve Cloudflare’s security products and features.

What we're looking for

• Candidates must be able to work a 5-day schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
• At least 2 years of technical support experience is required.
• Experience in customer support is required.
• Strong understanding of the OSI model, TCP, UDP, BGP, and QUIC is required.
• Advanced understanding of iptables and command line/Bash shell is required.
• Proficiency in sysadmin skills (Linux/Mac/Windows) and programming languages like Python, Ruby, or PHP is required.
• Security certifications such as CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, GCFA, or GCFE are preferred.
• Authorization to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export control laws is required.
