JOB TITLE: Manager, Automation & Controls Engineering (Power Generation & Utilities)
The Manager, Automation & Controls Engineering (Power Generation & Utilities) leads a team of engineers and technicians to own the design, build-out, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automation, controls, and electrical systems for critical power generation and utility infrastructure. This role involves managing industrial power generation assets, utility-scale and low-voltage electrical power systems, and balance-of-plant systems including water treatment, HVAC, and fuel gas. You will review P&IDs, challenge control philosophies, and oversee DCS/PLC architecture, electrical protection schemes, and commissioning details. Key technologies include DCS, PLC, SCADA, Ignition, and industrial protocols like Modbus and DNP3. You will ensure compliance with NFPA 70/70B/70E, NESC, and IEEE standards while driving standardization of cybersecurity posture and engineering practices to support high-reliability production and launch operations.
Own the automation and controls engineering scope for all power generation projects, including DCS/SCADA architecture and turbine control interfaces.
Manage controls and electrical integration for utility-scale and low-voltage power systems in compliance with NFPA and IEEE standards.
Lead the controls scope for mechanical and electrical balance-of-plant systems such as HVAC, fire protection, and cooling water.
Direct automation and controls for supporting utility and process systems including water treatment and industrial gas systems.
Build, mentor, and manage a team of automation and controls engineers and technicians to scale with production growth.
Review and approve technical documents including control philosophies, I/O lists, single-line diagrams, and control panel designs.
Drive standardization of control system architecture, cybersecurity posture, and engineering practices across all power and utility facilities.
Oversee field commissioning activities including loop checks, functional testing, protection testing, and root-cause investigations.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering field.
8+ years of experience in automation and controls engineering, with experience on industrial power generation or large-scale critical power infrastructure.
3+ years of experience directly managing or leading a team of engineers.
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (or eligible for Department of State authorization).
Demonstrated hands-on experience with DCS and/or PLC/SCADA platforms used in power generation or heavy industrial applications (preferred).
Experience working across the full project lifecycle: design, procurement, construction support, commissioning, and operations (preferred).
Working knowledge of electrical power systems, switchgear, protection, metering, and their interface with automation and controls (preferred).
PE license in Electrical or Controls Engineering (or willingness to pursue) (preferred).
