As a Senior Controls Engineer, Manufacturing Automation, you will serve as the technical owner of controls systems on the manufacturing floor, managing everything from architecture and PLC/HMI development to commissioning and sustainment. You will build and harden OT/IT automation infrastructure, develop Ignition Perspective SCADA applications, and manage production networking stacks including MQTT, OPC UA, and TCP/IP. The role involves programming Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms while implementing defense-grade security practices like IEC 62443 and NIST 800-82 segmentation. You will also manage hardware components such as switches, firewalls, and AWS EC2 instances to support production infrastructure. This position solves the challenge of creating secure, reliable, and high-volume manufacturing systems within a defense technology context, requiring expertise in industrial Ethernet, VLAN routing, and automated backup routines for complex manufacturing environments.
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of manufacturing controls systems from architecture and PLC/HMI development through commissioning and sustainment.
Develop and debug structured PLC code on Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms for high-volume production environments.
Build Ignition Perspective SCADA applications including tag architecture, alarm pipelines, and historian configurations.
Deploy and maintain OT/IT infrastructure including Ignition gateways, MQTT brokers, and managed server systems.
Manage the production networking stack by diagnosing protocol issues and managing VLAN segmentation at the packet level.
Implement defense-grade OT security practices such as air-gapped designs, network segmentation, and server hardening.
Perform hands-on network infrastructure tasks including running/terminating cabling and configuring switches.
Configure and manage firewalls and AWS EC2 instances to support production infrastructure.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Information Technology, or a related field.
6+ years of controls and automation experience in a production environment.
Strong PLC programming skills on Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms.
Proficiency in Ignition SCADA development including gateway modules like Tag Historian, Alarm Notification, SQL, OPC UA, and MQTT.
Proficiency across the OT stack including MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP, industrial Ethernet, VLANs, switching, and routing.
Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity including air-gapped networks, network segmentation, server hardening, and secure remote access.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Experience in regulated or defense manufacturing environments (ITAR/EAR, CMMC, or FDA/aerospace) (preferred); experience with CAD packages (preferred).
