TL;DR · Low Observables Technician

Low Observables Technician The Low Observables Team is seeking a Low Observables Technician to join the advanced manufacturing team focused on enhancing the survivability of unmanned air systems. This role bridges composite structures and low observable coatings to ensure aircraft remain undetectable in contested environments. You will perform critical tasks including composite bodywork, aerodynamic surface finishing, gap and seam treatment, and panel fitting for carbon fiber and epoxy surfaces. Additionally, you will support the paint team through masking, material handling, and hand-applying edge treatments and fillers. Key technical requirements include proficiency with filler systems, precision measurement tools like feeler gauges and calipers, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and MIL-spec documents. You will work with specialized materials such as RAM tapes and conductive sealants while ensuring all surfaces meet strict aerodynamic and signature-compliant profiles.

What you'll do

  • Perform composite bodywork including sanding, filling, and contouring to achieve signature-compliant surface profiles.
  • Apply aerodynamic fillers, gap fillers, and seam sealants to maintain low observable surface continuity.
  • Fit, trim, and install composite panels and fairings to precise engineering tolerances for flush fits.
  • Fabricate composite repair patches and filler details using wet layup or pre-preg systems.
  • Prepare masking layouts for complex coating schemes based on engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Support the paint team with material handling, booth setup, and manual application of edge treatments.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and MIL-spec documents to guide manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain detailed documentation regarding rework records, inspection data, and material traceability.

What we're looking for

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in composite/metal structures fabrication, repair, bonding, surface finishing, or assembly.
  • Proficiency in composite sanding, filling, and contouring to achieve specific surface profiles.
  • Experience with filler and sealant systems including mixing and application using various tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, process specifications, and MIL-spec documents.
  • Experience with precision measurement tools like feeler gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality requirements such as AS9100 or Nadcap.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with LO structures/coatings on military aircraft (preferred).
  • Direct experience with LO gap/seam fill materials, edge treatments, and RAM tape (preferred).
  • Experience with both carbon fiber/epoxy and metallic structure finishing (preferred).
  • Experience with composite repair methods like scarfing, wet layup, and pre-preg patching (preferred).
  • Experience with HVLP spray application of primers and topcoats (preferred).
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance (preferred).
