Lead Software Engineer (Java and Python) - Enterprise Technology Data Protection & Recovery is a technical leadership role within the Enterprise Technology Data Protection & Recovery product line. Daily responsibilities include owning end-to-end architecture for Java services, designing Python-based microservices, and managing disaster recovery objectives like RTO and RPO. You will implement secure SDLC practices, including threat modeling and SAST/DAST integration, while championing observability through metrics, logs, and traces. The role requires expert proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Python, alongside experience with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration. You will also lead the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed across the team.

What you'll do

Provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert in resiliency and recovery observability.
Own end-to-end architecture for critical Java services including API contracts, event schemas, and cross-service standards.
Develop and review secure production code while mentoring engineers through code reviews and coaching.
Drive the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.
Manage service reliability by defining availability SLOs, latency budgets, and error budgets.
Execute secure SDLC practices including threat modeling, SAST/DAST integration, and robust encryption.
Implement SRE practices such as metric instrumentation, alert design, and incident response management.
Enhance data protection capabilities through evidence chain of custody and restoration validation exercises.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Experience with expert-level Java proficiency including concurrency, memory management, performance tuning, and distributed systems.
Expert-level experience designing and implementing Python-based microservices.
Strong experience with Spring Boot, microservices, API-focused event-driven design, and schema evolution.
Deep knowledge of resiliency engineering patterns, disaster recovery objectives (RTO/RPO), and running DR tests or chaos exercises.
Secure SDLC expertise including threat modeling, SAST/DAST integration, dependency risk management, and robust authentication/authorization.
Practical experience with Kafka and other messaging platforms for streaming and topic design.
Proficiency in cloud-hybrid delivery using containers, orchestration, infrastructure as code, and AWS.
Experience with service mesh, API gateways, and contract governance (preferred).
Familiarity with modern frontend technologies for internal tooling or dashboards (preferred).
Knowledge of UNIX/Linux and shell scripting for operational tooling and automation (preferred).
