The Infra Configuration Consultant (Mainframe Capacity and Performance Analyst) joins the Technology organization to monitor, analyze, and optimize mainframe system performance and resource utilization across the enterprise. This role involves producing performance reports, identifying bottlenecks in CPU, memory, and disk I/O, and recommending improvements to maintain reliable services. The analyst will support workload analysis and tuning across z/OS environments, manage LPAR configurations, and coordinate hardware maintenance with external vendors. Key technical skills include proficiency with RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, MXG, SAS, Mainview, Systemware, Strobe, Syslog, OPSLOG, SDSF, and TSO/E utilities. The position also requires executing incident, problem, and change management tasks using ServiceNow and Endevor. This role solves critical infrastructure stability problems by ensuring efficient mainframe capacity planning and hardware lifecycle management.
Analyze mainframe capacity, utilization, and performance trends using RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, and other reporting tools.
Produce daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc performance reports to support operational decision-making and long-range planning.
Identify system bottlenecks and optimization opportunities involving CPU, memory, disk I/O, and workload management.
Support workload analysis and tuning across z/OS environments, including WLM service classes and job flow behavior.
Coordinate with vendors and internal teams on microcode installation, hardware fixes, and new device implementations.
Execute incident, problem, and change management activities using ServiceNow and enterprise change procedures.
Use diagnostic tools like Strobe, Syslog, and SDSF to investigate system behavior and perform root cause analysis.
Maintain the accuracy of the configuration database for assets, infrastructure components, and system documentation.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years of relevant or direct industry experience.
Experience supporting IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS operations, performance analysis, or capacity planning.
Working knowledge of mainframe performance and accounting data sources such as RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, or MXG.
Experience using SAS or similar analytical tools to manipulate data, create reports, and perform trend analysis.
Understanding of z/OS architecture, workload management concepts, and core system utilities including SDSF and TSO/E.
Knowledge of incident, problem, and change management disciplines in an enterprise technology environment.
Experience supporting or coordinating mainframe hardware activities, including maintenance, vendor engagement, or device-related changes.
