TL;DR · Infra Configuration Consultant, Mainframe Capacity and Performance Analyst

As an Infra Configuration Consultant (Mainframe Capacity and Performance Analyst), you will join the Technology organization to monitor, analyze, and optimize mainframe system performance, capacity, and resource utilization across the enterprise environment. You will be responsible for producing performance reports, identifying bottlenecks in CPU, memory, and disk I/O, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure reliable service. Your daily work involves analyzing data using RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, MXG, SAS, Mainview, Systemware, Strobe, Syslog, OPSLOG, SDSF, and TSO/E utilities. You will also manage hardware support activities, including microcode installation and vendor coordination, while navigating incident and change management processes via ServiceNow and Endevor. This role addresses the critical challenge of maintaining stable mainframe infrastructure through proactive capacity planning, workload tuning in z/OS environments, and ensuring high availability for core enterprise systems.

What you'll do

  • Analyze mainframe capacity, utilization, and performance trends using RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, and other reporting tools.
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports to support operational decision-making and long-range planning.
  • Identify system bottlenecks and optimization opportunities regarding CPU, memory, disk I/O, and workload management.
  • Perform workload analysis and tuning across z/OS environments including WLM service classes and job flow behavior.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams on microcode installation, hardware fixes, and new device implementation.
  • Manage incident, problem, and change activities through established IT service management processes like ServiceNow.
  • Execute software and configuration changes following Endevor procedures and enterprise governance standards.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as Strobe, Syslog, and SDSF to investigate system behavior and perform root cause analysis.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • At least 3 years of relevant or direct industry experience is typically required for this role level.
  • Experience supporting IBM mainframe environments including z/OS operations, performance analysis, and capacity planning is required.
  • Working knowledge of mainframe performance and accounting data sources such as RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, or MXG is required.
  • Proficiency in using SAS or similar analytical tools to manipulate data and perform trend analysis is required.
  • Understanding of z/OS architecture, workload management concepts, and core system utilities like SDSF and TSO/E is required.
  • Knowledge of incident, problem, and change management disciplines in an enterprise technology environment is required.
  • Experience coordinating mainframe hardware activities including maintenance, vendor engagement, and device-related changes is required.
