As a Principal, Mainframe Performance and Capacity, you will join the Mainframe Capacity and Performance Engineering organization to analyze, monitor, and improve the performance of critical middleware platforms supporting core business applications. Your daily responsibilities include identifying performance bottlenecks, conducting capacity analysis, creating automated reporting and dashboards, and supporting incident investigations. You will partner with various engineering teams to enhance system reliability and scalability. You must possess hands-on experience with IBM mainframe middleware such as CICS, IBM MQ, WebSphere Application Server, Liberty, Compute Grid, Kafka, or ODM. Required skills include analyzing z/OS performance data like SMF/RMF metrics and using tools like IntelliMagic, SYSVIEW, Grafana, and Datadog. You will also develop automation using SAS, REXX, Python, Java, or Bash to solve complex technical problems.
Analyze and monitor the performance of critical IBM mainframe middleware platforms.
Identify performance bottlenecks and conduct capacity analysis for core business applications.
Create automated reporting solutions and dashboards using tools like Grafana or Datadog.
Support production incident investigations and perform root cause analysis on technical data.
Develop scripts and automation using languages such as Python, REXX, or Java.
Perform system tuning and performance testing to improve reliability and scalability.
Document operational procedures and communicate technical recommendations to business partners.
What we're looking for
7+ years of experience in performance engineering, capacity management, systems programming, production engineering, or application infrastructure in large-scale enterprise environments.
Hands-on experience with IBM mainframe middleware platforms including CICS, IBM MQ, WebSphere Application Server, Liberty, Compute Grid, Kafka, or ODM.
Strong understanding of z/OS performance data, including SMF/RMF metrics, memory management, Coupling Facility services, log streams, and subsystem interactions.
Experience using performance and observability tools such as IntelliMagic, SYSVIEW, SAS/MXG, Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, or PostgreSQL.
Experience developing scripts, automation, dashboards, or reporting solutions using SAS, REXX, Python, Java, or Bash.
Experience supporting production incidents, change validation, performance testing, and operational readiness activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to document findings, operational procedures, and technical recommendations.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related discipline (preferred).
