JOB TITLE: Director, Mainframe DB2 Performance and Capacity
As a Director within the Mainframe Capacity and Performance Engineering organization, you will lead performance and capacity analysis for IBM Db2 on z/OS environments supporting critical enterprise applications. You will analyze workload behavior, forecast future capacity needs, identify performance improvements, and guide major technology initiatives impacting database resiliency. Your daily work involves partnering with application development, infrastructure, and operations teams to provide data-driven recommendations. You will utilize tools such as IntelliMagic, SYSVIEW, OMEGAMON, SAS/MXG, Grafana, Power BI, Python, and SQL. Core technical expertise includes Db2 for z/OS architecture, Distributed Data Facility, SQL performance analysis, access path optimization, and Parallel Sysplex. You will solve complex problems regarding processor utilization, memory management, and system stability to ensure scalable, cost-effective platform performance.
Lead performance and capacity analysis for IBM Db2 on z/OS environments supporting critical enterprise applications.
Analyze workload behavior and forecast future capacity needs based on growth trends and business volumes.
Identify and implement performance improvement opportunities for database infrastructure and subsystem tuning.
Develop capacity forecasts and performance models using stress-testing results and modernization roadmaps.
Lead production incident investigations and perform root-cause analysis in mission-critical environments.
Translate complex technical findings into concise recommendations and risk assessments for senior business leaders.
Conduct change assessments and resiliency reviews to ensure platform scalability and cost-effectiveness.
What we're looking for
10+ years of experience in Db2 for z/OS performance engineering, capacity planning, database infrastructure, systems programming, or production support.
Deep expertise in Db2 for z/OS architecture, DDF, SQL performance analysis, access path optimization, package management, thread processing, and subsystem tuning.
Strong understanding of IBM z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, workload management, processor utilization, memory management, and system performance concepts.
Experience analyzing performance and capacity data using tools such as IntelliMagic, SYSVIEW, OMEGAMON, SAS/MXG, Grafana, Power BI, Python, or SQL.
Proven ability to develop capacity forecasts and performance models using workload growth trends, stress-testing results, and business volumes.
Experience leading production incident investigations, root-cause analysis, change assessments, and resiliency reviews in mission-critical environments.
Ability to translate complex technical analysis into concise recommendations and risk assessments for senior technology and business leaders.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related field (preferred).
